Urbanite

The series Urbanite examines humanity’s position in relation to the manufactured and natural spaces. Moving the familiar into an unfamiliar landscape, the photographs recontextualise normality. These themes find their expression in and playful staging, placing individuals and objects where they don’t seem to belong. The subject, a city-dweller and office worker (often played by Verhoef herself) struggles amongst the elements in a desolate environment, exposing its emotional state of mind in a metaphorical fashion. The series Urbanite is a long term project and features photography shot in USA, France, Switzerland, Peru and The Netherlands.
